Book Review: Safe Haven

Yes, it’s another books review. And No, there won’t be any more of them for the next couple of months. That’s because my final exams are starting next week and I’m focusing more on school things. There will also be less of blogging for me, for the same reason. moving on….

I finished this book two days ago and I fell in love with it. I wanted to read it before watching the movie as I am one of those people who prefers reading the book before watching the movie. This was my second Nicholas Sparks read, the first was ‘The Best Of Me’, I’ve seen 3 of the movie adaptations of his books which are ‘The notebook’ of course, ‘dear john’ and I watched ‘A walk to remember’ last night. I look forward to reading more of his books and watching the rest of the movie adaptations.

So let’s start with this review and try to make it as spoiler-free as possible. ‘Safe Haven’ is one of those books that captivated the reader’s attention right from the first pages. It’s full of secrets about the past that leaves the reader want to find out more and learn more about the characters and the events. It’s about two characters that fall in love (it’s a Nicholas sparks book, if you didn’t see that coming, then I have nothing to tell you) Katie moves to a place where she doesn’t know anyone, she tries to keep a low profile. However, she moved into a very small area where everybody knows one another. She later becomes friends with her neighbor Jo, and the shop owner, who is a widowed man with two kids. (if I say more about the book, this review will be full of spoilers so let’s just move on to discussing the characters).

I already watched the movie trailer before reading the book, so I knew how the characters will look. Katie’s character is full of secrets about her pasts, I think she’s a strong character for reaching to this point in life, not everybody can do what she did. Alex, is a strong character as well, he is a widowed man with two kids and he tries as much as he can to make his kids happy after the mother dies (this is not a spoiler, she’s dead from the beginning of the story).

Overall, this book deserves 5 stars out of 5. It’s one of those books that makes you want to know what’s gonna happen next, and what secrets are going to be revealed.
